What is REM?

Within the ecommerce boon, there are two primary channels: direct-to-consumer and retail ecommerce. Retail ecommerce represents the indirect sales to consumers through an existing retailer like Amazon, Target.com, Walmart.com, Instacart, DoorDash, Kroger and other retailers and marketplaces. 

Retail ecommerce is the dominant and fastest growing segment of ecommerce, accounting for the majority of global ecommerce, whereas direct-to-consumer still represents a minority of total global ecommerce sales.

Retail Ecommerce Management (REM) is the end-to-end management practice of Retail Ecommerce.

Analog retail approaches can’t survive in an algorithmic world

Despite continued growth, ecommerce leaders struggle with lower profitability.

Using traditional brick-and-mortar tactics and benchmarks for digital channels results in challenges beyond low profitability. The traditional approach results in misaligned and siloed teams, wasted spend, measurement challenges, and disengaged employees, among others. Human-driven processes and operations can’t succeed in a digital world driven by algorithms and AI.
